You should be because we are in NYC, and apparently, it's a terrifying place now!⁠ 😬⁠

If you read the news, you've probably heard that NYC has turned into a scary place since COVID. Do I think it's true? As someone who is living here with my young family??⁠

The truth is that I've been confused by all the negative press NYC has been getting. I talked to a friend who lives in the village to see how she felt, and she agreed with me that things don't seem bad, but the news is making us feel horrible. ⁠
.⁠
Don't get me wrong, there are stores closing, and things are not "normal" in terms of pre covid times, but other than wearing a mask and keeping our distance, I still feel like NYC is NYC. I walk down the street with my kids skipping happily next to me, we enjoy the parks, get treats (coffee for mom and delicious sweets for kiddos), enjoy nyc food (via takeout), and the streets are filled with families as they have always been. ⁠
.⁠
So, when I get asked from those not currently in the city, is it bad? I heard it's soooo bad. I don't know what to say. Am I living in a bubble? Are they getting false news? Is it neighborhood-specific? Are they justifying the fact that they left? Is it a hybrid of all of it? ⁠
.⁠
I think this all comes down to perspective and also over dramatized hyped media. Matt said something interesting to me the other day - "well, if enough people say it, then it becomes true." <--- that concerned me. ⁠
.⁠
So, I'm curious - those in NYC right now, what are your experiences living in the city during COVID? ⁠

Every year, we host an annual pumpkin carving part

Every year, we host an annual pumpkin carving party. This year, since we couldn't have our plan A - having a big party, or our plan B - having a small party, or our plan C - having family over ... D - carving in the park with friends (doh, it rained!) ... it just wasn't working out!

What do you do when plan A doesn't work? We've all heard about having a plan B ... but what if that doesn't work out either? Is it time to quit?

No matter what happens to plan A, B, G, Q, Z... there is always another plan. The key is to use an artist's mindset in how you think and approach obstacles. When one thing does not work, the next step is to brainstorm alternatives, figure out the best alternative, and take action.

You will never be stuck for long and plan Q will most likely be better than what you hoped for in your plan A!

For those who may be struggling to get pregnant, I am writing this for you. ⁠

I dreamed of silly selfies like these when I was trying to get pregnant. I imagined what it would be like to have a child. What kind of mom would I be? Would she/he be a mini-me? (Wow, that would be strange!)⁠

These memories popped up in my head as T's recent favorite activity is to do "same as" selfies, where she makes a face, and I copy her and vice versa. She smiled happily, saying, "same as mom!" as she flipped through the pictures.⁠

T will be five next month, and I still can't believe that this dream is my reality. I almost lost all hope in this dream, and I am grateful every day that I did not. ⁠
.⁠
To those trying, please do not lose hope. I know all too well how hard it can be. But, dreams do come true. Perhaps not exactly how you envisioned, often better. ⁠

Every morning I write one thing I am grateful for. T asked me one morning what I was writing, and I told her that I write one thing that makes me happy so that I start the day remembering how great life is. ⁠⠀

Since then, she asks me to read them out loud to her, and the way she smiles when I read it, you would think they were her own. I love it. (I might add that to what I'm grateful for today! lol) ⁠⠀

When I first heard about keeping a #gratitudejournal, I have to admit that I didn't do it when I first heard about it. I was deep into my #fertilityjourney, and I didn't think it would make a difference. ⁠⠀

I started doing this towards the end of my journey and have continued to do so. This simple act (that takes no longer than a minute) reminds me of whatever is going on in my day/life, amazing parts of it that I am incredibly grateful for. ⁠⠀

Why? ⁠
This is the seemingly simple question that has made the most dramatic changes in my life. ⁠
.⁠
One of my most significant sliding door moments was sitting in a room full of investment bankers in an interview during my senior year of college, and they asked me, "WHY do you want to be an Investment banker?" --> It was like I had woken up for the first time; why? ... well, actually, I don't! I wish I can tell you I pulled off some dramatic NO response and walked out of there strong and empowered; I did that in my head. But in reality, I gave a very BS answer, which was the last finance interview I ever went to. ... It's because of that moment that I pursued my passions for the arts. ⁠
.⁠
Since this moment, I ask myself - WHY? Quite often. It's because you can figure out a lot by really thinking about your why. ⁠
.⁠
During my fertility journey - it started with: ⁠
Why do I want to have a baby? ⁠
My answers to that why brought things to the forefront that I never realized. Somethings that I could address and achieve without a baby. ⁠
⁠
It also gave me the drive to keep ongoing. After a failed cycle, feeling down and full of meds ... I thought about my "why." and it gave me the strength to persevere.⁠
⁠
In motherhood, it comes in the form of when I am making decisions for my family, in my professional career, and with @jazzkatat - "Why?" - it keeps me grounded and focused on the right priorities. ⁠
.⁠
As you can see, I use this in every part of life! ⁠
If you haven't asked yourself, "why?" lately, I encourage you to do so. You might surprise yourself with the answer. It could be a realization that you shouldn't be spending time doing a particular thing or give you that extra strength and push to keep on going because your WHY is a pretty d*mn good WHY! ⁠
