Today, I start my estrogen patch. As far as medications go, this is probably the least disruptive and easiest to manage. It’s pretty much a thin clear sticker that goes on your body. It is thin enough where you do not feel it and small enough so it does not get in the way of anything. I will have to change it every other day until I get my period.  If I do not get my period by the 10th I am suppose to call the doctor.  Please remind me if I forget! 😛

I was curious why I needed an estrogen patch and decided to look into it.  It seems like it’s a relatively standard protocol pre IVF treatment.  Read below:

Estrogen Priming Protocol: In conjunction with the Antagonist Protocol, your fertility doctor advise you to use an estrogen supplement to silence natural hormone production and ovarian stimulation. The estrogen patch is typically prescribed two weeks before day 1 of your cycle and is replaced daily until your period (cycle day 1) arrives. The stimulation period begins and follows the Antagonist protocol. This is best for poor responders or women diagnosed with Diminished Ovarian Reserve.

Time lapse of putting on the estrogen patch:

I wish all the meds were this easy and painless!

Of course, there are always side effects. Let’s look at the side effects of Estradiol Transdermal Patch:

  • Bleeding Not Related to Menstrual Period
  • Breast Tenderness
  • Fluid Retention in the Legs, Feet, Arms or Hands
  • Weight Gain
  • Itching
  • Loss of Appetite
  • Redness of Skin
  • Sinus Irritation and Congestion

Side effects never sound good.  Let’s hope I have minimal to no side effects from this med.

On to the next .. Coculture biopsy scheduled for Thursday.
